CUSTOM
WHITE-TAILED DEER ANTLER
Blade Steel: A2
(Air Hardening Tool Steel)
Finish: Heat Treated Finish
Handles: Southern Indiana White-Tailed Deer Antler
Fasteners: 3/16in Solid Brass Peened Pins
Notes: This was a unique piece that was done as a retirement gift. I had to look through 10 sets of antlers before I found the one that I could use to create what I had imagined. Deer antler is different from Stag in regard to its more sharp and abrupt twisting throughout the antler. This makes identifying a section to use as Handle scales difficult. I was fortunate to have the right Antler to do this project. The likelyhood of finding a similar antler to produce this effect in the future is slim.
This was my first try at a "Rope" spine. The effect was created free hand, using a 1/8in needle file.
It's amazing the difference a small file can make.

FILEWORK

This is an example of the file work that we most commonly apply to knives such as the Worker Bee and the Workhorse. I wanted to do something a little different and this is what we came up with. Nothing Fancy, just something a little unique when it comes to working knives. This is created freehand with a triangular needle file and a 3/16in chainsaw file.
